Loo Stool © Positions

1. Loo Stool at 16cm height with legs fitted at 45deg.
Regular position for most adults allowing evacuation without straining or pushing.

2. Loo Stool at 11cm height, with adjustable legs detached. Lowest position allowing persons with long legs evacuation without straining or pushing.

3. Stool at 20cm height - pic scrpt 20cm - Legs fitted vertically. Position for children or adults with built up toilet seats allowing evacuation without straining or pushing.
Correct Technique for Bowel Movements
Sit yourself comfortably on the loo seat, with your knees about hip distance apart and your feet flat on a raised platform ( between 16cm to 20cm height should make a comfortable posture) Lean forward and rest your forearms on your thighs. Ideally, your knees should be higher than your hips; if the toilet has a built seat, i.e. for arthritic reasons, 20cm should give you an appropriate posture.
Why Use This Position?
There are many advantages to adopting a semi squat posture:
- It makes evacuation faster, easier and more complete.
- It helps to prevent straining which may stretch and damage structual tissues including the nerves to the pelvic organs.
- It helps relax the pubo-rectalis muscle and produce a vertical anul canal.
- The anterior abdominal wall is supported against the thighs.
- It helps both children and adults develop good habits of evacuation and therefore reduces problems with constipation, symptoms from piles and may decrease the incidence of prolapse.
